The spelling of this phrase is taken from a scribbling found in a Union soldier’s handbook. During the civil war “Somebodies Darlin” was soldiers slang in reference to bodies that would often litter the American landscape as seen in this print from Gettysburg. The phrase was also immortalized in a
civil war song.
