During the dark days of Prohibition some bootleg establishments thought to skirt the law by charging patrons a fee for the viewing of an animal –some quite exotic… such as a pig, then covertly serving a “complimentary” cocktail to loosen up the crowd. Known variously as a Blind Tiger or a Blind Pig, these establishments were typically the dingy, downtrodden, and depraved cousin of the more upstanding
speakeasy.
